Here are the 2nd quarter updates and a few safety reminders from the LDLD Board of Commissioners. Enjoy the summer and safe boating everyone!
Boating Safety
Safety is a top priority for both lake residents and our guests. Remind your guests that this peaceful, family lake practices safe boating. As a community, we expect respectful behaviors from everyone for the benefit of all. Now is a good time to refresh yourself, and inform family and friends, of the City of Muskego and WI DNR Boating Laws and Requirements including but not limited to:
When skiing or tubing, travel in a counterclockwise direction
If born after January 1, 1989, the completion of a boater’s safety course is required to operate any motorized boat including personal watercraft.
Slow-no-wake speed requirements:
Within 100 feet of any dock, pier, or buoyed restricted area
From sunset until 8:00a.m. the following morning
Specific for Personal Watercraft:
Slow-no-wake speed within 100 feet of a pier, raft or another watercraft and 200 feet from shore
May not be operated between sunset and sunrise
Navigation lights:
Red/green sidelights & a masthead or all-round white light, are required from sunset to sunrise.
No other lights, including docking lights, may be used, while out on the lake, which could be mistaken or interfere with the required lights.
Fourth of July Boat Parade
Show your creativity and patriotism with festive boat decorations and your best red, white and blue attire. The parade will start at 10:00 AM on July 4th in the north east corner of the lake and will make several laps. Join in, or wave from your pier, for a fun-filled morning on the water.
Mechanical Weed Harvesting
Our “mechanical harvesting” permit is valid for 5 years (2023 to 2027). Midwest Aquatics did conduct Curly-Leaf Pondweed(CLP) harvesting activities on Lake Denoon the week of June 16 to June 20. Dave reported that he only found “trace” amounts of CLP & Eurasian waterfoil (EWM). One harvester load, approximately 5 cubic yards, was removed. He attributes this fact to our ProcellaCOR treatment last year. He thinks our reports of CLP are mostly thin strands of Charra that shoot higher in a reproduction mode. He cut some of the long Charra stems but they are too thin to be scraped off onto the barge, stick to the conveyer, and end up back in the lake. The harvester can not go in-between piers and needs to operate in 4+ feet of water. Also, per the DNR guidelines, a patch of weeds must be >50% CLP and/or EWM for the harvester to cut that area This constrains what can be cut particularly in the corners/bays. Therefore, they were not able to get to all infested areas.
Fish Stocking
In 2025, the Lake District received a generous donation from the family of Cindy & Ken Jensen and Bob Kargl, to provide fish stocking. Along with additional funds from the LDLD, the lake district will utilize the money donated to stock the lake with Northerns mid to late August. The DNR is NOT expected to stock Walleyes in 2025.
Chemical Weed Treatment
The DNR permit to chemically “spot treat” invasive species (CLP & EWM) was applied for and approved on June 23, 2025. Solitude Lake Management was on the lake on Wednesday, June 25 to apply Aquathol-K to the approved targeted areas. This is a contact herbicide that drops to the bottom and is effective on aquatic plants it touches. It does not spread into untreated areas.
Sub-Point Intercept Survey
The DNR will complete one Sub-PI Aquatic Plant Survey which will be conducted in July. This activity is another part of our SSW Project Plan. Patrick Siwula, DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator, and others, will utilize the Hart Drive boat launch starting around 9am. They will be using a DNR boat equipped with GPS/sonar and will sample about 60 points around the 3 locations where SSW was found in 2024.
The DNR will create a sub-PI grid in the vicinity of the Hart Drive launch. The DNR will also do “spot checks” in two new areas: On the south shore and north shore.
This survey will take a full day to complete. The DNR will pull their vehicle and trailer out of the Hart Drive launch and park along Hart Drive.
Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW)
The LDLD CBCW watercraft inspection program started at the Denoon Park and Hart Drive boat launches in May. Inspectors have been hired, completed their training and are scheduled to cover weekends throughout the summer. Boat inspectors perform boat and trailer checks, hand out informational brochures and educate boaters on how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Data is collected and entered into the DNR statewide database. This program is made possible by a 75% DNR matching grant.
Lady Gliders
The Lady Gliders is a casual get together of the women on Lake Denoon on Wednesday mornings at 08:30 AM. Please join us whenever you can as we kayak, paddle boat or paddle board around the lake. Just head out to the east shore to find the group which starts at the gray boathouse on the east shore behind Coaches.
LDLD Annual Membership Meeting
Mark your calendars for Monday, August 25, 2025. The official announcement, location and agenda will be sent via USPS and by email to LDLD members in early August.
