Here are the 2nd quarter updates and a few safety reminders from the LDLD Board of Commissioners.  Enjoy the summer and safe boating everyone!

Boating Safety

Safety is a top priority for both lake residents and our guests.  Remind your guests that this peaceful, family lake practices safe boating.  As a community, we expect respectful behaviors from everyone for the benefit of all.  Now is a good time to refresh yourself, and inform family and friends, of the City of Muskego and WI DNR Boating Laws and Requirements including but not limited to:

• When skiing or tubing, travel in a counterclockwise direction

• If born after January 1, 1989, the completion of a boater’s safety course is required to operate any motorized boat including personal watercraft. 

• Slow-no-wake speed requirements:

  • Within 100 feet of any dock, pier, or buoyed restricted area

  • From sunset until 8:00a.m. the following morning

• Specific for Personal Watercraft:

  • Slow-no-wake speed within 100 feet of a pier, raft or another watercraft and 200 feet from shore

  • May not be operated between sunset and sunrise

• Navigation lights: 

  • Red/green sidelights & a masthead or all-round white light, are required from sunset to sunrise. 

  • No other lights, including docking lights, may be used, while out on the lake, which could be mistaken or interfere with the required lights.

    
    

Fourth of July Boat Parade

Show your creativity and patriotism with festive boat decorations and your best red, white and blue attire. The parade will start at 10:00 AM on July 4th in the north east corner of the lake and will make several laps.   Join in, or wave from your pier, for a fun-filled morning on the water.

Mechanical Weed Harvesting

Our “mechanical harvesting” permit is valid for 5 years (2023 to 2027).  Midwest Aquatics did conduct harvesting activities on Lake Denoon from May 26 to May 28.   Dave reported a total of 5,000 cu-ft which they equate to 70,000 lbs.  They operated two different harvesters for a total of 34 hours (Tues=11.5, Wed=12, Thurs=10.5).   They collected weeds from piers on Tuesday and Thursday.  The harvester can not go in-between piers and needs to operate in 4+ feet of water. Also, per the DNR guidelines, an area of weeds must be >50% CLP and/or EWM for the harvester to cut that area  This constrains what can be cut particularly in the corners/bays.  Therefore, they were not able to get to all invasive weed infested areas.  

While a lot of weeds were harvested, there are still a lot of weeds, mainly Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) visible.  Options the board is actively pursuing include another harvesting event in July and/or chemical  treatments.  SOLitude Lake Mgt. will conduct a plant survey and submit their findings to the DNR.  The DNR will determine where to apply chemicals and what chemicals to apply.  

Chemical Weed Treatment

The DNR permit to chemically “spot treat” invasive plant species (CLP & EWM) was applied for and approved on April 2, 2026.  SOLitude Lake Management has been awarded the application contract and was out on the lake on June 10 to survey aquatic plant abundance and location which determined the type of chemical, dosing, and areas to treat.  The chemical weed treatment, using Weedar 64, was done on Thursday, June 18.   The DNR will not approve a “whole lake” treatment in 2026.  The board will pursue a whole lake treatment permit in 2027.

Denoon Park Boat Launch

The DNR should approve the city of Muskego dredging permit in about a month.   Dredging will most likely occur in October.  The board agrees that this is a good time to dredge as the boating season will be over by that time.

Fish Stocking

If fingerlings are available, the DNR will stock walleyes in 2026.   The DNR will wait until 2027 to conduct an electroshock fish survey.  The DNR does not recommend the lake district stock the lake in 2026 but wait until 2027.

Sub-Point Intercept Survey

The DNR will complete one Sub-PI Aquatic Plant Survey in 2026.  Tentative dates are July 15 or 16.  This activity is part of our 2026 Starry Stonewort(SSW) Project Plan.  Amanda Schmitz, Waukesha County AIS Coordinator, along with others, will conduct the survey primarily in the Hart Drive boat launch area.  The information provided will determine where to conduct SSW hand-pulling activities.  

Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW)

The LDLD CBCW watercraft inspection program started at the Denoon Park boat launch in May.  Due to the limited number of inspectors, we are only able to man one boat launch.  Denoon Park was selected due to the volume of boats launched at that location in 2025 Boat inspectors perform boat and trailer checks, hand out informational brochures and educate boaters on how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.  Data is collected and entered into the DNR statewide database.  This program is made possible by a 75% DNR matching grant.

Lady Gliders

The Lady Gliders is a casual get together of the women on Lake Denoon on Wednesday mornings at 09:00 AM.  Join us whenever you can as we kayak, paddle boat or paddle board around the lake. Just head out to the east shore to find the group which starts at the gray boathouse on the east shore behind Coaches.
